Past Generation Toys is a purveyor of vintage and new and collectible toys with a presence on Amazon US, Canada and EU, Jet, Newegg, Sears, Shop.com and Wal-Mart.
Joshua Kluger became an online seller in a rather offbeat way: he realized he needed a handful of figures to complete his prodigious 80’s GI Joe collection.
After finding the items he needed in a large lot on eBay, he decided to see if he could turn around and sell the figures he didn’t need. He ended up recouping the cost of his purchase and then some. So he tried it again, and made his money back again. And again.
That was 2007. Since then, Joshua has grown his online business into Past Generation Toys purveyor of vintage and new and collectible toys with a presence on Amazon US, Canada and EU, Jet, Newegg, Sears, Shop.com and Wal-Mart.
As his business grew, Joshua became liable to collect and remit sales tax in more states. It only took one attempt at California’s extremely taxing sales tax filing process before he realized he needed help.
He asked his go-to resource, ChannelAdvisor, for a recommendation. They had no set integration and recommended a TaxJar competitor as a possible solution provider and the results were disappointing to say the least. Setup was convoluted and time consuming. Whenever he contacted customer support he’d wait two days to receive a reply, and that reply would include a long video containing the answer… somewhere.
Working with [TaxJar’s competitor] was one of the most god-awful experiences I’ve ever had with a company.
That’s when Joshua tried TaxJar.
On setting up TaxJar, Joshua told us:
I got more done with TaxJar in 30 minutes than I did with [competitor] in 2 weeks. In fact, when I finished getting set up with TaxJar, in 8 minutes, I at first thought I’d done something wrong! But no, TaxJar is just that easy.
Joshua also compared pricing between the two.
I found TaxJar’s pricing to be far more advantageous, he told us.
But the real golden egg, he continued,
is the time savings. You only have to deal with sales tax in a difficult state like California once to appreciate what TaxJar does.
