The Streamlined Sales Tax Project

Streamlined Sales Tax Project Members States

Earlier we wrote about the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SSTP): what it is and what it means for your business.

In short, the Streamlined Sales Tax Project was one of several ways that states have attempted to band together and make sales tax compliance less difficult for sellers. (And not just eCommerce sellers – this project was kicking around back when “remote sales” meant catalog sales or even sales by traveling salespeople.)

The ultimate goal of the SSTP is to encourage all retailers to register and collect sales tax in all SSTP member states. The thinking here is that if enough states make sales tax compliance very simple, merchants will either choose to comply on their own, or the federal government won’t be so recalcitrant about passing some sort of federal sales tax initiative.

While you should check out our entire blog post about the SSTP for all the info you might need, this is a list of SSTP member states. You can click on each state for more information about their individual sales tax rules and regulations.
